CarterMatt attended Major Crimes’ 100 episode celebration on October 7 and took the opportunity to interview Jonathan Del Arco. They talked about his feelings about the show’s cancellation, his favorite autopsy, his plans for the future, and more.

So what could be coming up for you next?

I’m excited to try different roles. I would love to do something in streaming like on Netflix or Hulu. I love that they’re getting to do some wild and crazy stuff. I would love to do a sitcom – I started out in sitcoms, so that would be super-fun to go back to three-camera [work] in front of an audience. I’m also directing a short I wrote. It’s called Tea With Lucy. I wrote it for my friends, and it’s a very sweet story about two women from different parts of life who come together for a really special moment.

Despite the sad news that the upcoming sixth season of Major Crimes will be the last, we still have thirteen fantastic episodes to look forward to. Let’s make sure we all turn up and give this wonderful show and its cast and crew the sendoff they deserve. If we make TNT weep when they look at the amazing ratings, that would be a pleasant side effect.

Here is a little info about what’s in store for us starting Tuesday, October 31 at 9/8c:

Official synopsis

Sanctuary City Part 1:

When three fifteen-year-old boys vanish from a Catholic school field trip, new Asst. Chief Mason orders Major Crimes to treat their disappearance as a critical missing. Meanwhile, Sharon receives more evidence that Phillip Stroh may be returning to Los Angeles.

Sanctuary City Part 2:

While the search for the missing boys continues, the squad faces off with an untrustworthy priest, an angry ex-husband, and threats from the F.B.I. Rusty startles Flynn and Sharon with a surprising request.

Episode titles for season 6:

6×01 – 6×05: Sanctuary City

6×06 – 6×09: Conspiracy Theory

6×10 – 6×13: By Any Means

We wish that we were coming to you with better news, but sadly, we are not. Season 6 of Major Crimes will be the last.

TNT has opted to cancel its number one scripted program. More details can be found on TVWise.

Show creator James Duff shared the following message on Facebook earlier:

I’m directing the finale of Major Crimes, so I can’t really answer all the questions that are being asked today about why Major Crimes was cancelled before we ran our sixth season. But I do want you to know that it was not at all my idea, nor did I want to leave the show. The actors, the writers, the producers and our talented crew would have held on as long as we were relevant. I am extraordinarily thankful to our viewers, who followed us to four different time slots in the last eighteen months, and who make up a very large part of what we call the community of the show. Without the loyalty of our audience, Major Crimes would have been gone much sooner. We’ll have a chance to talk about what happened in the near future. Meanwhile, we are determined to give you the best season we can. So sorry I couldn’t stop this moment from happening.

For now, please join us as we express our sorrow at this news, and our thanks to this crew for 13 years of wonderful storytelling. Without a doubt, this was a hell of a ride. We wish the cast and crew only the very best, and let us, as fans, make Season 6 the most watched and enjoyed of this show’s amazing journey.

TNT finally set a premiere date for Major Crimes’ 6th season. Make sure you go trick or treating early on Halloween, because at 9 pm EST our favorite crime solving team will be back. So mark your calendars, book time off work, and set a reminder to unplug your phone – on Tuesday, October 31 at 9/8c, Major Crimes will be back!

Season synopsis:

TNT’s Major Crimes faces its three most challenging cases, struggling to solve mysteries mired in complex political conflicts having little to do with identifying and arresting murderers. As Cmdr. Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) grows accustomed to her new boss, Assistant Chief Leo Mason (Leonard Roberts), the detectives find themselves questioning their faith in the rapidly changing priorities of the justice system and their ability to reason through difficult changes in their personal relationships. Finally, they must accept the necessity of risk, in all its different guises, as they prepare to face the inexplicable but increasingly undeniable return of Phillip Stroh (guest star Billy Burke).

The stellar cast includes two-time Oscar® nominee Mary McDonnell, G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Phillip P. Keene, Kearran Giovanni, Jonathan Del Arco, Graham Patrick Martin, Leonard Roberts, Jessica Meraz and Daniel di Tomasso.

The screencaps for episode 5×21 “Shockwave Part 2” have been added to the gallery. Check them out!

In anticipation of tonight’s episode 17 of season 5 – “Dead Drop”, James Duff gave us a little taste of what we can expect.

Jonathan Del Arco is an extraordinary actor, capable of so much more than his role as the coroner on our series demands. Though he is quick to describe himself as the Paul Lynde of Major Crimes, in reality, his talents run much deeper than tossing off mordant quips on the nature of death. Whether he is jealously guarding his prerogatives, emotionally devastated from the autopsy of a child or creepily fascinated with the more gruesome elements of his job, Jonathan makes his character sharp and compelling, which is why we’ve struggled for years to come up with a plot that could authentically include Dr. Morales through an entire story.
